After their first flight

  • Mozart: So much racket!!! Why is an airplane so loud?!?
  • Beethoven: What are you talking about. I didn't hear anything....

A very happy birthday to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata! The musical definition of broody.

Beethoven next to a giant slice of birthday cake. I have no idea what to make of this. (via wolfgangundludwig:)

On November 22, 1963, Austrian Erich Leisdorf was guest conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra when he received word of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He made a short announcement to the audience (conductors rarely spoke from the podium in those days), lifted his baton and had the BSO play the funeral march from Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony in President Kennedy’s honor.

Boston radio station WGBH was broadcasting the orchestra that day. We like to imagine what it would have been like to be there, as time stood still and the music filled the silence and grief.

While we’re on Ode to Joy, you’ve seen Beaker from the Muppet Show do the same number right? Note the exploding violin.
